When playing chess, one should properly develop the minor and major pieces into a cohesive unit. The minor pieces are the knights and bishops while the major pieces are the rooks and queen. An underdeveloped or a misplaced minor and major piece can lead to a bad position which can be undermined by the opponent.

The following guidelines will help on how to develop properly the minor and major pieces.

The knights should be placed on the squares f3 and c3 if one is playing the white pieces or on the squares f6 and c6 with the black pieces. This ensures that both knights control the central squares e4, e5, d4, and d5.

Do not place the knights on a3 and h3 if playing white or on a6 and h6 with black. The knights are misplaced since they do not control the central squares of the board. When trying to attack or defend, a misplaced knight will take another two or three moves to join the action. A two or three move differential in chess can make or break the game.

If possible, move the bishops on the squares f4 and c4 if white or on f5 and c5 if black. Again we are trying to control the central squares on e4, e5, d4 and d5 which will become very important in the coming middle game.

Try to castle your king early. The king is safer when it is castled and it will not obstruct the movements of the other pieces. It is preferable to castle the king on the kingside rather than on the queenside. On the kingside, the king is situated near the corner of the board which will make it hard to attack the king directly.

Initially place the queen on the square d2 or e2 if white or on the squares d7 or e7 if black. This serves to make room for the rooks to move along the a1 to h1 rank if white or on the a8 to h8 rank if black. On these squares, the queen will aid the pawns on either the e-file or d-file to press on for an attack.

Now that the back ranks are cleared (a1 to h1 or a8 to h8), place the rooks on the squares e1 and d1 if white or on e8 and d8 if black. In these squares, the rooks are centralized and are ready to support the pawns on the e-file and d-file to move forward for an attack.

The key theme to all this is “centralization”. The pieces are placed on the squares in which they effectively control the central squares of the board. With the minor and major pieces being centralized, it is much effective to conduct an attack on the opponent since the pieces are acting as one cohesive unit.

Before the internet was born, people played chess games by sending postcards to each other. Now most turn based chess games are played with email or on dedicated servers. There are certain advantages and disadvantages that players experience when they play this form of chess. This article will explain the various disadvantages and advantages of playing turn based chess.AdvantagesOne of the biggest advantages of turn based chess is the lack of time pressure. In live games, players are usually given a specific amount of time to complete the game or to make a move. In turn based chess, you can go days without making a move. This gives you more time to analyze positions and reduces your chances of making blunders.Another advantage of turn based chess is the number of games you can play. Most players don’t have the ability to put on a simultaneous exhibition of live games. In correspondence chess, you can play many games at once.DisadvantagesOne of the biggest disadvantages of turn based chess is the possibility of cheating. Without anyone else there to watch over them, some players may be tempted to cheat. These unscrupulous players use chess computers to come up with their moves for them.Another disadvantage of turn based chess is the waiting involved. If you’re an impatient person, you will not like this form of chess at all. It can take a few weeks just for your opponent to make one move. A lot of turn based chess games can last for several months.Turn based chess is great for players who require a lot of time to think out their moves. It also allows players to participate in many games at once. People who are impatient will not like turn based chess very much because it can take several months just to complete one game. Also, there is a possibility that your opponents may be using chess computers to play you. Before you get started in correspondence chess, you should weight these advantages and disadvantages and see if this form of chess is right for you.

As a chess player, you should take advantage of these resources. These games are a great way to improve your play. This article will discuss why you should study free chess games.Openings When you are just starting to learn how to play chess, you should choose a relatively easy chess opening and stick to it. Common beginner openings are the King’s Indian, Ruy Lopez, and the Queen’s Gambit. Once you have chosen an opening, you can download free chess games that feature that opening and use them to learn all of the variations. The chess opening is the most important part of the game. If you don’t play the opening well enough, you may not be in a position to put up much of a fight during the middlegame.Middlegame After using the free chess games to work on your chess openings, you should start using them to improve your middlegame. When analyzing chess games that are played by grandmasters, you should pay close attention to the combinations. Doing so will dramatically improve your combinational and tactical play. There are plenty of combinations to learn using various pieces. Learning these combinations will improve all aspects of your game.EndgamesFree chess games also give you a great tool to study endgames. Endgames are almost as important as chess openings. Endgames are also a very important phase of the chess game that you should study. Beginners should start out studying rook, pawn, and bishop vs knight endgames. You study download free chess games that end in these positions. After playing these endgames out for a while, you will start to learn the ideas to be used during endgames. If you have already improved your middlegame, you will soon be able to direct middlegame positions into an endgame position that you are familiar with.Studying free chess games is a great way to improve your playing ability. When you are just starting out, you should choose an opening a analyze different games that use that opening. After that you should work on the middlegame and the endgame. You will start to win many more games sooner than you think.

In other words, chess games for kids combine developmental thinking and enjoyment.Kids’ chess games undoubtedly raise the intelligence quotient (IQ) scores of kids. They strengthen problem solving skills and the ability to make difficult and abstract decisions independently. Chess puzzles teach children to think logically and efficiently. As they learn advanced techniques from chess books and tutorials, children also pick up the good habit of reading.Chess games are won or lost due to a tactics mistake. Identifying frequently-occurring tactical ideas is very important to success. Online chess games, chess instructive books, chess puzzles, etc, help kids practice and learn the game. An online chess game is one of the fastest and most enjoyable ways to improve at chess. It provides interactive chess lessons, quizzes, games and puzzles for kids. The kids can play chess against the computer with a variety of chess software packages.Kids of all levels, from beginners to advanced tournament players, can find many instructive books in the market. In a simple, easy-to-understand format, these books explain different topics such as how to play, basic strategies and advanced tactics. Players can select from these sections according to their needs. For beginners, the first two sections are helpful to understand basic concepts, such as how to utilize a fork, pin, or skewer. The advanced tactics section gives additional information on opening, middle game planning, endgame strategies, piece activity, pawn structure and weak squares. Many parents are beginning to learn that chess helps to develop the latent skills in children. Every piece on the chess board has a value and some have greater value than others. Losing stronger pieces for lesser ones may cost a player the game. Thus chess brings into focus ideas of mathematics for kids. Chess games for kids thus boost reading, memory, language and mathematical skills.

Playing chess is a wonderful game that many people around the world play. For most of the people they just want to play chess for recreation. Some players also love to join their local chess tournaments and join chess clubs where they can play and compete with better players other than themselves.

Although chess is a great game, most people do not have any knowledge of how the principles of chess works other than how to move the pieces and a few rules. Take for example the opening in chess. The chess opening is very important because it is where you will position your pieces to prepare for the coming middle game. A bad chess opening will lead to a bad position in the middle game which will almost always lead to a loss in the end game and sometimes in the middle game itself.

In chess opening, one has to know the value of centralization. One has to control the four squares that are located in the middle of the chess board particularly the squares e4, e5, d4, and d5. The player should control at least two of these squares and should not give more control of the squares to his opponent. Doing so would lead to a bad middle game.

Here are ways on how to control the four central squares:

Do not move any other pawn other than the e-pawn or the d-pawn. Always move it two steps forward, for example from e2 to e4 or from d2 to d4. By placing your pawn on e4, it controls the square f5 and d5 which means that the pieces of the opponent cannot set foot on the squares f5 and d5 without being taken by the pawn standing on the square e4.

If the opponents knight or bishop will land on f5 or d5, the player can take the opponents piece and will gain an advantage in material which could be enough to win the game. This also applies to the pawn on d4 which controls the squares e5 and c5. Any of the opponents piece landing on these squares will be taken by the pawn.

Do not move the pawns located on the a-file and h-file. This will only weaken your position. Moving any of these pawns will not help in controlling the central squares on e4, d4, e5, and d5. And besides the pawns on the a-file and h-file will be more vulnerable to the opponents attack once the rooks are being brought to action, leaving the pawns on the a-file and h-file weak.

Do not move the pawn standing on the square f2 if you are handling the white pieces or the pawn on f7 if you handle the black pieces. The pawns on f2 or f7 is only defended by the king. No other piece is defending it thus if you prematurely moves that pawn in the opening, your king will be vulnerable to attack from the h4 square to e1 square if you are white or from the h5 square to e8 square if you are black.

Always remember that the key to centralization is to occupy the central squares with your own pawns. This will give you more space for your pieces to move around later in the middle game and at the same time limiting the space of the pieces of your opponent.
